Remember: TYPO3 has absolutely no build dependencies! I don't get it.

About the paths problem (better detection of programs):
Why not make these functions inside of the core (so it stays easy and
doesn't get more depenencies)? I think that class.t3lib_exec.php is already
made for something like this...
