[Typo3-dev] Other field as FrontendUser Identity

Hi,

during the planning of the frontend user integration into a bigger
project, I remember that e.g. IBM uses other User-Identity informations
for the Login-Process - not username:password but email:password.

If you think a moment about that, that is a really good concept as
emailaddresses are more unique globally as any selfchoosen username.
Another project where the emailaddress plays a central role is gnuarch.

But one question. Does anyone knows if there are dependencies on the fe
username? It's no problem for me to modify the core for my wishes - I
think only a few fe-plugins have to be modified also.
Are there arguments against providing emailaddresses as an alternative
user-identity?

Greets Sven
