They aren't. datasources are not DBAL, this is something different. The
current DBAL code relies on the adodb extension (which "only" contains the
ADOdb library plus a tiny patch and some TYPO3-specific code).

Still, the actual DBAL extension exists and is needed for "full
abstraction".
