[Typo3-dev] production-server

hi all,
has there any work been done towards a live and a production server?
if not, i had the idea of making a small extension which requires 2 
typo3  installations one live and one production and executes an update 
of the live-server when everything is running on the production-system. 
best would be incremental file and db update.
is there any kind of this already in the repository? if not, what do you 
think of this idea.
