[Typo3-dev] Caching...

Hello dear list!

is there somewhere any document(fragment) explaining the typo3 caching mechanisms? I've now spent days (without any result) to understand why a special typo3-installation don't wants to cache my content...
At first I thougt it was my Extension, but it is not. There is anything that switches the caching off, anywhere. Elmar, didn't you work on a document describing the Caching mechanisms?
