There is a nice project called kchmviewer:

For the interested: I have built a Debian package for Sarge of it.

@Mathias: Yes I know it is useful, but I didn't use kchmviewer until last
week ;-) However, I'm sorry to say but I think that your CHM file becomes
obsolete with TER2. Ask Robert... :-)
