Just to be sure, I would write it that way:

config {
  spamProtectEmailAddresses=2
  spamProtectEmailAddresses_atSubst=(at)
}

> Typo3 Version 3.5b5
> Strange, isnt it?

Not really, I just copied the function from TYPO3 3.6.0RC1. Maybe some parts
of it are not available in this version.
