Because I want to have thumbnails of PDF files...? :-)

My idea has nothing to do with PDF itself, I just think that it slows the
system down when images (doesn't depend if they are PDF files or not) are
identified on each call.

Every time you view a page that contains images, the CMS will open the file
and read out the image dimensions.
