Apropos DBAL, (general note, not specific for Andreas)

in TODO.txt of the core there is outlined some challenges to DBAL and it has been outlined that we should create a test-application containing every single "kind" of SQL job TYPO3 performs - and then see how easy that is to implement abstracted...

Now, we don't want another "how about this" thread about DBAL - we want someone to actually do some tests on real-world TYPO3 problems here. This has been promised before, it didn't happen. But that is what we need.
