[Typo3-dev] "template engine" as service?

Hi!

I have only browsed over the docs of template voila, but it occured to me that the mechanics of output in arrays can be generalized. With Smarty you also assign scalars and arrays to output.

So I think that with a little changing in template voila, we could have a Typo3 service. A sister extension that provides the same service utilizing Smarty for it's output has yet to be written. *)

Template voila looks nice, but I guess that folks familiar with Smarty would prefer the latter. If we had a service we could let the user have a choice. Who knows perhaps some other template engines could be integrated.

Im willing to do the Smarty part. Anybody volunteering to help with coding and/or testing?

*) One could extend the existing Smarty extension which currently does nothing extremly exciting.
