[Typo3-dev] Devolving a backend 'shell'

Hi guys, Iam all new to typo3 and it was love on the first sight :)

My goal is to create a more idiot-friendly backend, a backend which will feel convertible for Microsoft office users. Now I know I can get pretty close to this goal by using ‘skins’ and user/group polices, but Iam afraid that the ball will go over the topbar with a few inch. No, what I want is a backend which evols around the Rich Text Editor in an ‘office’ style evoriment sort of like frontpage.

I guess I’ll have to hardcode in several php files to adjust the layout to my likening, so I wonder if I can find any, anything will do, detailed information about the backend and especially its functions or should I just study the naked php files?
