I was only wondering what the _other_ purpose might be, except for TV. 
Because if it is useful only for TV, I should be part of TV and not the

Yes, and my confusion is further worsened by the fact that Zach can 
easily (I guess) replace the GRSP with SP without losing anything *and* 
making it possible to use e.g. the newloginbox on the same page (not 
that I would want to do that).

I understand that it is needed for TV (which breaks with a lot of TYPO3 
traditions like columns and stuff anyway) and this is fine, I just don't 
like to use it like in the chc_forum or the newloginbox for 
fe-configuration.
