One of main features in my opinion is the ability to move files, which 
is a hassle with cvs. Another point is that svn can track changes for 
binaries and transfer only the diff'ed parts (which is not that 
important for php files, but imagine images, flash-files, ...).

The list of improvements is _very_ long and after using svn since 
version 0.something I don't want to use cvs for my projects anymore.
I doubt it that sourceforge will offer to transfer an existing 
cvs-repository into a svn-repository... but we'll see.

My only thought in my last posting was that it might be possible to move 
  _only_ the cvs/svn-part to another server while leaving the 
heavy-traffic-downloads at sourceforge...
