Someone has done a patch/custom datatype for postgres which allows 
queries to the database to contain Xpath queries - something like

select xmlfield.query(/body/div[@id=content]/title from sometable where 
somefield=123;

this is roughly what it's like - can't quite remember. There are two 
version: xml and xml2.
