[Typo3-dev] RC2: "FreeType is apparently not installed" even when it works for 3.6.0 RC1

The installation program for RC2 does not seem to pick up free type. I get the following error:

FreeType is apparently not installed 
It looks like the FreeType library is not compiled into GDLib. This is required when TYPO3 uses GDLib and you'll most likely get errors like 'ImageTTFBBox is not a function' or 'ImageTTFText is not a function'.
 
How to reproduce the problem:

Get the WAMP-quickstart-3.6.0RC1-2.exe
Get the typo3_src-3.6.0RC2.tgz (16/04/04)
Get the quickstart-3.6.0RC2-1.tar.gz

- install the WAMP...
- Install both the tar.gz files (including rationalising the file structure as per the upgrade_install manual on the section about installing previews)
- worked the install wizard (set up the paths, changed the memory for php, imported the database.sql, imported the other *.sql necessary)
- got a warning that "FreeType is apparently not installed" even though my RC-1 installation (by WAMP) don't raise this problem and Freetype works fine)

Any tips?
