Look for friends in other (open source) software communities. If it's 
really a problem then it will affect also other projects. The more 
developers complain (in a civilized manner) the more likely is a change 
or some kind of PHP configuration switch.

Besides a bunch of single mails, there are joint mails or even better an 
open letter of affected major PHP projects.

I reckon your not in your seventies now. It is your opinion only 
hot-blooded young men of 20 could take up such task? :-)

I don't think so. Typo3 is good and has some press covering, but I fear 
it's not big enough.
