I think we shouldn't, because it gets pretty confusing after some time.
Using numbers - be it 3.6.0->3.6.1..., 2->3->4 or 2004->2005 - has the big 
advantage of always being able to put versions in a chronological order 
without having to remember when each "codename" was released.

So, if I know there is a "Typo3 2004" out and someone wants to sell me a 
"Typo3 2003", I know it's an older version and I can ask about the reasons 
why I should use this one instead of the newer version. There may be some, 
after all. ;)

With "Typo3 fuente" and "Typo3 cohiba", I tend to get confused. Which one 
is the newest? I can imagine that marketing-wise this may sometimes be a 
nice effect, but generally I really dislike it. There's nothing wrong with 
numbers after all. It works for cars, it works for movies, it works for 
Corel and Adobe, doesn't it? ;)
