This has been said several times and i forgot to include that in my list:

Of course versions and the whole release candidate mode only makes sense,
when a version is feature frozen and only bug fixing is allowed.

Everything that comes to mind or in the code after the freeze is either on
hold or in development in the dev-version.

Of course this whole logic presumes some team work, rather than a one man
show and that is also why i guess it hasn't come to be like that naturally.

Anyway, this is imperative for a clean release policy.

Other than that:

At CeBit, I have seen the Editor RealObjects will relaese shortly as a
commercial TYPO3-Plugin. It is Java-based, has as-you-type spelling
correction, is entirely configurable and completely extensible. It also
checks all input against any given DTD, that again can be fit to your needs.

We have had this alternative RTE-discussion for 2 years now and i am
seriously bored with it. Let's face it, it will never happen.
And now that there is an, albeit commercial, alternative that is far beyond
what we have or can produce in some reasonable time, the odds have not
improved.

Say good bye to this project and bring on the funeral music folks. I has
been wanting to be laid to rest for ages, it is old, grey and starving and
no one has had the heart to kill it off.

Aah, reason! Masi your my man ;-)

I already spent a bag of cash in terms of opinion-spouting, so i avoid false
modesty.

Cheers
