[Typo3-dev] Mailman instead of newsletter extension

Folks,

For massmailing there is a nice opensource project available: mailman, 
which is also used for the typo3 mailinglists.

I'm going to write some kind of web-interface for mailman in the next 
couple of days.

The functionality will be similar to the existing newsletter-module with 
the difference that mails can be sent with a usual MUA instead of the BE.

I'm a experianced PHP programer, but I unfortunately have very limited 
typo3 extention knowledge.

How should it look like to include such a functionality into typo3? 
(Preferred not only for typo3, I'm thinking about creating some kind of lib)

Or: Are there some existing plans for such a interface?
