[Typo3-dev] Hint of the day

Hi Folks.

Following the discussion of global categories;

Generally, it would be nice to kick out the global extensions, at least
many of them which are "marginalized" in terms of usefulness. However
the great practical problem is that this would require a far more
complicated upgrade process for ALL websites using TYPO3; Imagine if for
every site you have you should not just click a button to upgrade the
database but ALSO make sure to install any of the removed global
extensions locally; it would probably takes hours and sometimes days for
people. This is not something we can just do. Or at least lets wait a
little.

My hint of the day was something different. I recently discovered that
local extensions in typo3conf/ext/ can be symlinked between
installations sharing the same TYPo3 source! This is very useful! It
means that on my dev-server I have varying number of extensions
installed locally per site BUT they are all symlinked to the same source
and thus I avoid the dangerous redundancy and at the same time I share
all the goodies of the global extension concept!

Try it before your neighbour in cyberspace.
