Of course, apache, php, mysql are Software-Dependencies at the
serverside, theses are the base where TYPO3 is running on.

No, you only need an modern Browser with Javascript, Cookies & Frames at
the client-side - so with Ubuntu & Firefox you're on the safe side.

here are some hints: http://typo3.org/about/system-requirements/
one problem with ISPs could be the default memorylimit for php-Scripts
which is often 8MB per script. This is definitly not enough for TYPO3,
but if the ISP is willing to do so, it is no problem to set it up to 24
or better 32MB.
Besides this TYPO3 will work with an uptodate ISP installation of apache
1.3 and php4, you don't need bleeding edge php5 from cvs or something
like that.

I think that's the best way to go.

P.S. Download Option2 is interesting for people with an expensive
Internetconnection. They could download a complete Typo3 System
including all the required Serversoftware and put it on a local
testmachine or their own desktopmachine.
This way they could test it all out and get an impression how the system
looks like without having to pay per minute or wating for hours with an
56k uplink up to their ISP.
