[TYPO3-debian] index.php doesn't exist

Hi

I've tryed it with two versions of the Typo3-3.8.1: each time I un-tar the
files to a folder in /var/www I can see the index.php (and some other
files) but when I try to view them (in a browser og editor) they doesn't
exist. 

Any hints? A rights-problem?
