Hi Lars
First, I want to thank you for your effort by making this documentation.
I thought it to be a great idea to have a documentation that starts at
the very beginning.
Before I give my feedback please consider that I am not debian or apache
literate. I've been fiddling with Typo3 installation by hand on a debian
system and so far just changed some httpd.conf. and hassled around with
confixx.
I also work on Mac OS X 10.3.4 and have just one can standing around
(that's how we call PC's) that needs to run some windows OS for testing
websites. So, what I had to do was to install debian with Virtual PC on
my Mac.
I downloaded the netinstall image at
http://www.phy.olemiss.edu/debian-cd/woody-i386-1.iso (1st in the list
at debian.org) and ran Virtual PC with that image.
I used your documentation on and off since not everything was covered in
your documentation that came up with my installation process but I got
the partioning right (as you recommended) and I guess eveverything else
since I was able to apt-get all the necessary packages.
I also updated httpd.conf and php.ini as recommended (although Michael
Stucki's meta package already does some of the update by itself).
That's pretty much how far I have come. Now your documentation goes to
fast for me and I will have to consult other documentations about how to
setup apache and mysql so I can continue with the Typo3 installer.
Lacking the linux knowledge I wouldn't even know how to access the
debian through Virtual PC from my Mac OS.
So I think your documentation is a pretty good start. It gave me the
kick to try a debian installation by myself but then it really is just
for more experienced people that already know a lot about apache etc. As
for me as a rookie I'm pretty much stuck. without consulting any more
documentation.
Jean-Marie
