Your howto might work but it is not the preferred way!

This (and some more recommended/required packages) will be installed through
"apt-get install typo3-env". It's very easy, isn't it?

The zip archive isn't meant for Unix installations. Instead, use the tar.gz
archive which uses symbolic links (=easy upgradable).

If you open just http://localhost/<name>/ the first time (without
"typo3/install") then you'll be redirected to the 1-2-3 installer which is
pretty easy and works great, assuming you'll have a preconfigured
localconf.php as my Debian packages provide it.

Same here. Took me 2 minutes, and it will be 2 more when the next upgrad is
out...
