yes, you should. php4 installation on debian seems to leave that line
outcommented.

also, you'd need to find similar line in httpd.conf

<IfModule mod_dir.c>
    DirectoryIndex index.html index.php3 index.htm index.shtml index.cgi
</IfModule>

and add "index.php" as the first option, so you're webserver finds the
right scripts/files.

and then restart apache, ofcourse.
