[Typo3-UG CH] favicon

i am trying to get the favicon work. i am new to typo3 . i got the version 
3.6.2. i installed de quickstart version. in the template-setup-fielt i addes 
page.shortcitIcain = favicon.ico. i tryed the favicon.ico whit a simple 
index.html und it worked. has anybody an example with a working 
favicon...i also read that people insertet html-code in the  header
to get the favicon working...many thanks for your help
