Naja, da hast du ja schon das Problem.

Schau mal im phpinfo
zu Einträgen wegen gdlib und freetype.
Da sollte sowas in der Art stehen:
----
GD Support enabled
GD Version 2.0 or higher
FreeType Support enabled
FreeType Linkage with freetype
T1Lib Support enabled
----

und dann schaust du im Install Tool unter All Configuration
was du da bezüglich GD konfiguriert hast und wenn du dann noch
nicht selbst auf eine Lösung kommst, postest du alle Infos
auch hier.
